Common Questions with our short-term plans:

If I contract the Coronavirus during my trip, are my medical expenses covered?

If you contract the Coronavirus during your trip, you could be covered under your Emergency Accident and Sickness
benefit for medical expenses incurred during your trip, under the Emergency Medical Evacuation if you need to be
transported to a higher level of care as deemed by our emergency assistance provider, and under the Trip Interruption
benefit for unused, pre-paid trip costs.

If someone has Coronavirus and are in critical condition, are they allowed to be evacuated while still testing positive?

Critical care due to deteriorating health, due to sickness including Coronavirus, does not necessarily trigger transport. If
adequate care is available at location, then transport to another location or repatriation home would probably not be
advised. However, there are air transport companies who have prepared planes with safety protocols, PPE and isolation
to protect the crew, to facilitate transport of patients who are Covid-positive or have other contagious illness.

If someone tests positive before reentering their home country, what should they do?

  • Call the 24-hour hotline on the back of their card for immediate assistance
  • Save your receipts for unforeseen expenses you incur during quarantine
  • Save your documentation from any medical treatment/testing you have done

What does Trip Delay do?

If You are delayed for 12 hours or more while en route to, during or returning from Your Trip due to a covered Travel
Hazard, We will reimburse You up to the Maximum Benefit Amount shown in the Schedule of Benefits, for the expenses
You incur for additional hotel nights, meals and local transportation while You are delayed. Your Sickness or Injury or the
Sickness, Injury or death of Your Traveling Companion, or Family Member traveling with You is a covered reason under
this benefit.

Does Trip Delay cover a change in airfare?

No. Coverage for airfare would fall under interrupting your trip due to sickness in our Trip Cancellation and Trip
Interruption policy.

I need a Proof of Insurance form to enter my destination—what do I do?

For the Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption Optional Upgrade:

What can be covered?

  • Canceling before departure due to an unforeseen illness resulting in travel restrictions as certified by a physician
  • Interrupting a trip due to an unforeseen illness resulting in travel restrictions as certified by a physician
  • The charge for a single supplement if your traveling companion’s trip is canceled, but yours is not (i.e., your traveling companion’s portion of a hotel room)

What cannot be covered?

  • Canceling a trip or returning home early due to a required pre-entry country quarantine is considered a pre-existing condition
  • Canceling due to fear of the Coronavirus
  • Canceling because your airline cancelled your flight due to Coronavirus-related reasons
  • Canceling because your tour operator cancels your tour
  • Canceling because a country alters their travel restrictions due to Coronavirus-related reasons

For 365 Plans:
