Travel Insurance Glossary

This travel insurance glossary is intended to help with the terms as you’re reading through the description of coverage and does not in any way revise or amend the policy. Note: These terms do not necessarily apply to Liability and K&R insurance policies.

 

Accident – A sudden, unexpected, unusual, specific event which occurs at an identifiable time and place.

 

Business Partner – An individual who: (a) is involved in a legal partnership; and (b) is actively involved in the day to day management of the business.

 

Domestic Partner – An opposite or same-sex partner who is at least eighteen (18) years of age and has met all the following requirements for at least 12 months: 1) Resides with You; 2) Shares financial assets and obligations with You; 3) Is not related by blood to You to a degree of closeness that would prohibit a legal marriage; 4) Neither You nor Your Domestic Partner is married to anyone else, or has any other Domestic Partner.

 

Injury/Injured – Bodily harm caused by an accident occurring while your coverage is in effect that requires treatment from a physician.

 

Pre-existing Condition – An illness, disease, or other condition during the 60 day period immediately prior to the Effective Date of Your coverage for which You or Your Traveling Companion, Business Partner or Family Member scheduled or booked to travel with You: 1) received or received a recommendation for a test, examination, or medical treatment; or 2) took or received a prescription for drugs or medicine. Item (2) of this definition does not apply to a condition which is treated or controlled solely through the taking of prescription drugs or medicine and remains treated or controlled without any adjustment or change in the required prescription throughout the 60 day period before Your coverage is effective under this plan.

 

Repatriation of Remains – Transportation to return your body to Your city of primary residence in the United States of America if you die during the trip.

 

Sickness – An illness or disease which requires treatment and begins while the plan is in effect.

 

Trip – A scheduled trip, 100 or more miles from Your primary residence; for which coverage is elected and the premium paid and all Travel Arrangements are arranged prior to the Scheduled Departure Date. Length of trip is limited to a maximum of 60 days for the Basic plan; 90 days for Plus; and 180 days for Premium.

 

Trip Delay – A trip delay of 12 or more hours caused by a carrier delay, a lost or stolen passport, natural disaster, traffic accident, or civil disorder.
